WorkSafe Queensland's current page says apprentices and trainees require supervision at all times by an appropriately licensed electrical worker. The level depends on the work and on the apprentice's training and competence, and supervisors must be properly licensed, qualified and experienced in the work. In the first six months an apprentice or trainee must not work near a live high-voltage exposed part, or where there is a risk of contact with a live low-voltage exposed part.[1]
What the current page says
WorkSafe's current page refers to section 307 of the Electrical Safety Regulation 2026 for training-person work limits. Employers must ensure apprentices and trainees are supervised at all times, with supervision matched to the work and the person's training and competence. Supervisors must be properly licensed, qualified and experienced in that work.

The first six months
During the first six months of an apprenticeship or other training program, the apprentice or trainee must not work near live exposed high-voltage parts or where contact with live exposed low-voltage parts is a risk. Supervision continues throughout training, with the level chosen for the task and the person's competence.

Common questions
- Can an apprentice work unsupervised in QLD?
- No. WorkSafe Queensland says employers must ensure apprentices and trainees are supervised at all times. The level depends on the work and their training and competence, rather than their year of training alone.[1]
