Since 1 March 2026, NSW gasfitters must submit certificates of compliance and inspection through the BCNSW eCert portal within 5 business days of completing gasfitting work. Emailed or posted copies are not accepted. A job on a gas network gets a certificate of compliance sent to Building Commission NSW, and a job off a network gets a certificate of inspection for the owner.[1]
Network or non-network decides the certificate
NSW splits gas jobs by whether the installation is connected to a gas network. Both have a 5 business day window after completion.
| Installation | Certificate | What NSW says to do within 5 business days |
|---|---|---|
| Connected to a gas network | Certificate of compliance | Test the installation for defects and submit the certificate to Building Commission NSW |
| Not connected to a gas network | Certificate of inspection | Inspect connected containers, regulators and appliances, test the whole installation, attach a compliance plate and give the certificate to the owner |

eCert, not MyInspections
Submission is through BCNSW eCert for all gasfitting work. MyInspections is for plumbing and drainage only, so it is no longer used for gas certificates. Triplicate books have not been valid since September 2020.
For non-network jobs, keep a copy of the certificate of inspection for 5 years.
